Stocks or mutual funds that have increased in value, and been held for more than one year, are some of the most beneficial assets to use when making a gift to MPI.
By donating appreciated stock, you are giving more than if you sold the stock and made a cash donation. By making gifts of appreciated securities, you avoid capital gains taxes. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer.
