The training, equipping and deployment of 300 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Masaiti and Mpongwe Districts of Zambia’s Copperbelt Province, Global Grant 1984116, began in early July.  On Wednesday, July 24th, D9210 Governor Douglas Katengo visited a training session and provided encouragement to the 40 trainees.  CHWs are deployed in their villages to diagnose and treat malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea.  In Zambia’s Southern Province, over a period of five years they have succeeded in reducing the incidence of malaria among children almost to zero.
