On Friday, 19th February 2021, RC Mbale Metropolitan hosted PDG Kenneth Wycliff Mugisha, Chairman RMPU Board of Directors, to officiate as Guest of Honor at their Market Vendors Malaria project event. The event took place at Mbale Central Market, and along with their implementing partner Development Initiatives International who have 16 years’ success in implementing HIV/AIDS, Malaria and capacity building projects in Market Communities, they conducted Malaria screening and sensitization, and distributed Mosquito nets amongst market vendors.
The one year project funded by a grant from MPI (Formerly RMP) implements the Market Vendors Malaria Project (MAVEMAP 1) in three markets of Mbale City; Bugwere Road market, Soroti Road market and Mbale Central market. The project carries out sensitization on Malaria prevention and management, Malaria screening and referral for treatment, distribution of treated Mosquito nets and market cleaning and disposal of garbage to minimize mosquito breeding in and around market areas.
Both the market Malaria Peer Educators and vendors appreciated PDG Ken’s interaction with them; taking part in malaria screening and distributing treated Mosquito nets among them. He appreciated the former for the great work so far, encouraging them to continue working hard to ensure malaria prevention and treatment messages reached fellow vendors, families and customers. Through the Market radio Vendor’s Voice, PDG Ken spoke passionately about Rotary and elimination of Malaria in Uganda.
