03.2021 - On March 9th, 2021, Rotary International, World Vision, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the launch of Rotary’s first Program of Scale. 

Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia, a $6 million investment will train, equip and deploy 2500 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Zambia.  Learn More 

Workshop & Launch Event
03.2021 - PMFZ officially launches at the Protea Towers Hotel in Lusaka on March 31. Following the launch, a start-up workshop brings together all implementing partners and the Gates Foundation. 

1,308 CHW Trained 

12.2021 - Zambian and international Rotarian and Rotaractors train 1,308 CHWs in 10 districts of Muchinga and Central provinces in the integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) program, exceeding the year 1 target of 1,300.

06.2022 - The effort to train 825 CHWs in 4 districts of Muchinga, which began in April 2021, is completed. Trained volunteers are expected to impact the lives of more than 412,500 people in the province. 

The launch of “Pledge to End Malaria Pin Campaign” amongst U.S. based Rotaries begins as part of a broad based advocacy campaign.

09.2022 - 2,500 CHWs are officially deployed in 10 high malaria burden districts across 2 Zambian provinces. 

More than 1.2 million Zambians have access to primary healthcare through the services of their own neighbors and friends, CHW’s, who are now trained to test, detect, and treat malaria and other ailments.

Re-Fresher Trainings for CHWs
05.2023 - MPZ finishes conducting comprehensive refresher training sessions for over 1,500 Community Health Workers and more than 200 facility staff in Central, Copperbelt, and Muchinga provinces. 

The retraining ensures CHWs are up-to-date on the latest malaria prevention and treatment methods. 

 

 

Announcing Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge
09.2023 - Rotary International President Gordon McInally announces that Rotary- and its partners - World Vision and the Gates Foundation, will implement the Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge, building on the successes of Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia and scaling the project’s work to 3 other countries. 

‘Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge’ will strengthen health systems and tackle leading childhood killers -- malaria, pneumonia, and diarrheal diseases -- in the DRC, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Zambia 

 

CHW Graduation & Celebration
05.2024 - Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia project celebrates the graduation of retrained CHWs in the Mpika district. The ceremony was honored by the presence of representatives from the Mpika District Commissioner, Mpika Mayor, and Dr. Arthur Mataka, DHD for Mpika.
