Welcome to Malaria Partners Zambia!

At Malaria Partners Zambia, we are honored to be part of a global movement with a profound mission: to ignite an international Rotarian campaign to end malaria. Our commitment to this vision extends far and wide, transcending borders and reaching communities all across Zambia.

Our journey towards malaria elimination in Zambia began in 2009 when then President Nancy Sclater had a pivotal conversation with the late Rtn Bill Gates Sr. His impassioned persuasion led to her visit to Zambia and sparked the consideration of investing in malaria elimination. This initial encounter laid the groundwork for our relentless pursuit of a malaria-free Zambia.

Through collaborative efforts with Rotary Clubs on the Copperbelt, we initiated several bednet distribution projects. These early endeavors paved the way for the official registration of Malaria Partners Zambia and the establishment of our office in Zambia in 2018.

Today, with over 4,000 trained Community Health Workers, our dedicated team is tirelessly working with our partners to eradicate malaria and improve healthcare access, ensuring a healthier future for all. Our Projects

Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia

Our flagship project, Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia (PMFZ) was the recipient of Rotary's inaugural Programs of Scale grant. With a generous investment of $6 million, spearheaded by Rotary and supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and World Vision USA, this initiative is combating malaria in Zambia.

Since its launch in 2021, PMFZ has trained, equipped, and deployed 2,500 community health workers across 10 high-burden districts in Zambia. These dedicated individuals are empowered to test, diagnose, and treat malaria at the grassroots level, bringing essential healthcare directly to communities in need.

Collaborating closely with World Vision as a co-implementor, and forging partnerships with esteemed organizations like PATH's MACEPA project, we are driving impactful change in the fight against malaria in Zambia.

Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge

Building on the success of Partners for a Malaria-Free Zambia (PMFZ), we are proud to introduce the Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge (RHCC). This ambitious endeavor arises from the strategic collaboration established through PMFZ, aiming to expand disease prevention and treatment efforts.

With a substantial budget of $30 million, RHCC will extend the impact of PMFZ's work beyond malaria, addressing additional critical health challenges such as pneumonia and diarrhea in Zambia, Congo DR, Mozambique, and Nigeria. By providing Ministries of Health, Rotary members, and partners in target countries with sustained resources, RHCC aims to implement large-scale, high-impact programs to mitigate the severity of these diseases and reduce associated mortality rates.

The official announcement of RHCC occurred in September 2023 at an all-Africa Rotary Conference in Zambia, with the launch scheduled for July 2024.

Copperbelt Phase 1 and Phase 1A

The Copperbelt Phase 1 project stands as a landmark endeavor, becoming our inaugural project following the registration of Malaria Partners Zambia in 2019. In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ndola Mukuba and the Rotary Club of Federal Way, Phase 1 focused on Masaiti and Mpongwe districts, training, equipping and deploying 301 community health workers to spearhead healthcare interventions at the grassroots level. With a total project cost of $260,000, this milestone underscores our dedication to catalyzing positive change and fostering healthier communities from the outset.

The launch of Phase 1A in 2020, a year after the inception of our Copperbelt Phase 1 project, represents a continuation of our collaborative spirit in our malaria elimination efforts. This time, the Rotary Club of Kitwe and the Rotary Club of Aspen partnered to extend our impact by training an additional 200 community health workers in Chililabombwe at a project cost of $200,000.

Together, these collaborative endeavors showcase our steadfast commitment to fostering healthier communities across Zambia.

Copperbelt Phase 2

In 2021, the Rotary Clubs of Mufulira, Kalulushi, and Luanshya in Zambia, and the Rotary Club of Seattle #4 in the U.S partnered to implement our Copperbelt Phase 2 project. Together, these Rotary Clubs joined forces to train, equip, and deploy 1,055 community health workers across the three districts. This ambitious endeavor, executed at a cost of $1,100,000, signifies our collective commitment to advancing malaria elimination efforts in Zambia. Through collaborative action and shared resources, we continue to make strides towards healthier communities and a brighter future for all.
