The community of Ukonga in Tanzania was the site of the 6th annual Medical Camp on February 6th, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay.  This year’s Med Camp was estimated to reach about 5,500 people. New this year was the focus on malaria education and prevention. In addition to the camp itself, the program included the installation of netted windows and doors for two settlements, protecting approximately 450 people. Data will be collected to monitor the efficacy of the net installation and education. Participants were screened for malaria and those who tested positive received medication at the camp. Camp organizers discussed malaria symptoms, prevention and treatment with participants and distributed educational brochures and nets. The project was led by Rotarian Jubril Adeniji of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, the Rotary Club of Ukonga and the medical students in the Rotaract Club of Kairuki. Malaria Partners International was honored to be one of the main sponsors along with RAM-G, GTBank, and the Ukonga Health Centre.
