Under the Net Challenge Guide
A Guide for Rotary Clubs participating in the Under the Net Challenge
Instructions
1. DOWNLOAD THE DIGITAL TOOLKIT
Click the button below to view and download our digital toolkit. This contains all of the materials you need to complete the Under the Net Challenge. Participants using this Digital toolkit will need to purchase their own mosquito net to simulate the experience. See the section 'Need a Bed Net?' below for suggestions.
2. Present the Challenge to Your Club
Schedule time to introduce the challenge at a club meeting. Use the digital toolkit slide deck (with speaker notes), welcome letter, pledge sheets, instructions, ITN info, and video. Explain how the challenge works and why malaria prevention matters.
3. CHOOSE HOW YOU PARTICIPATE
The Under the Net Challenge is designed to be flexible. Rotary Clubs may participate as a group, sponsor an individual member, or engage through peer connection if located in a malaria-endemic region. Each model raises awareness, generates funds, and deepens Rotary engagement in the fight to end malaria. If your club has been partnered with a Rotary Club in a malaria-endemic region, please use the Getting Connected Guide to structure your collaboration.
Option 1: Rotary Club Fundraising Challenge
Rotary Clubs set a fundraising target and assign members to sleep under the net until the goal is reached.
Option 2: Individual Fundraising Challenge
One member of the club volunteers to sleep under the net and collects pledges per night from fellow Rotarians, friends, or sponsors.
Option 3: Clubs in Malaria-Endemic Regions
Clubs located in malaria-endemic regions are invited to participate by sharing insights, providing feedback, and engaging in conversation with clubs taking the challenge. Your role is to help ground the campaign in lived experience and provide critical global context.
If you have not yet been connected to a participating club, there may not be a partner available. Please contact nets@malariapartners.org for more support.
4. take on the Challenge
Whether participating as a club or an individual, use the pledge sheets to record all donations. Be sure to track sponsor names, pledged amounts, payment types, and the number of nights supported. Keep track of sponsor names, amounts, and nights supported.
After the challenge, upload a copy of your pledge sheet here so MPI can thank all participants.
During the challenge:
- Share your club’s participation on social media: Access Logo Pack and Editable Social Media Graphics (Canva)
-
Use the hashtag #UnderTheNetChallenge and tag us on social media
-
Highlight your progress in club newsletters or announcements to encourage support
5. SUBMIT YOUR DONATIONS
The club liaison (primary contact for the challenge) is responsible for collecting all pledges and submitting the total amount raised. Clubs collecting cash or checks should consolidate totals and submit online using the Stripe Link below. The club liaison may share this online donation link with their Rotary Club so members can submit their pledges. Please contact nets@malariapartners.org with any payment issues or questions.

Need a Bed Net?
This digital toolkit does not include a physical mosquito net. Participants will need to obtain a basic net to simulate the challenge experience.
The net does not need to be insecticide-treated or meet any technical standards. The purpose is to better understand the discomfort and daily reality of sleeping under a net, not to prevent mosquito bites.
For U.S.-Based Participants
Rotary Clubs based in the United States may receive a physical toolkit, which includes one non-treated bed net. The net size provided is:
Size: L75 x W59 x H67 inches
This net fits over a twin or full-size bed and can be supported by string or a collapsible frame.
If your club did not receive a net or need an additional one, you can purchase a similar model using this link.
For International Participants
Clubs participating outside the United States will need to purchase a net locally to simulate the experience. We recommend a freestanding or hangable net that is comparable in size to the one used in the U.S. kit:
Recommended size: Approximately L75 x W59 x H67 inches
Look for a lightweight, indoor-use mosquito net that can fit over a single bed, cot, or mat.
