The trainings of Community Health Workers (CHWs) Copperbelt Malaria Elimination Phase 2 project in integrated Community Case Community (iCCM) were concluded towards the end of December 2021. These trainings were conducted in three Districts on the Copperbelt of Zambia namely Mufulira, Kalulushi, and Luanshya, and were spearheaded by Rotarians.
The graduation ceremony of the last group of trainees was so colorful and was graced by Malaria Partners Zambia (MPZ) Co-chairperson Dr. Mwangala Muyendekwa,, Provincial health Director (PHD) Dr. Robert Zulu, National Malaria Elimination Centre Reps (NMEC), MPZ Staff and Rotarians from the three clubs involved.
During the ceremony Dr Muyendekwa urged the Community Health Workers to conduct themselves in a professional manner as they head back to implement what they learnt in their various communities. The PHD Dr. Zulu thanked MPI/ MPZ and all the other Partners for helping bring health care close to the families by training CHWs who are foot soldiers in the elimination of malaria, who will help prevent and treat malaria in their communities more reason he regards them very important.
Now that the knowledge has been imparted and skills enhanced in 1055 Community Health Workers, we as MPZ look forward to the start of the actual work in three Communities and we shall help sensitize the various Communities to embrace the program and we shall also be monitoring the progress made by the trained Community Health Workers.
